And I met Joy,
The Great Joy

the Laughing Heartbeat, Wine of Life Joy.

I am a leaf dancing in her tower of wind,
suddenly my wide open eyes see

every second of Her hand
on the wet web of time,
shards of sunshine
scattered in every dust mote

I remember!
The knowing washes through me
scours my skin like lovers’ nails

“it was you! This whole time!”

Like jolting awake atop a bolting horse,
colours whip by,
swirl of forms cast on and off and
this blinding huge
YES
bursting from every seam like a lava of light,
eruption

the secret smile
that quivers things into being

And then!
then when I wake,
already curled golden around the edges
humming from Her,
tipsy as a honey bee

Then!
when already today I am god’s favourite child
spoilt silly with his butterfly kisses

the voice at the foot of the sofa
replies
in unspeakable delight
“Me too! She visited me two nights ago!”
