Unfurling fractals
Day One
I sit for hours inside the open base
Of a fallen, ancient redwood,
Sit With the sapling
growing In the exact center
of a circle of centuries of bark.
Day Two
A tree’s fingers snatch me out of the air,
Interrupt a fatal arc of collision.
Day Three
Arms hold me, lead me up into
A tree house.
I sway in the canopy,
Finding my way back into being one,
Held in the dreaming web of many.
Day Four
I follow the forest’s counsel
feed its body to the fire
At dusk and dawn.
While the wind carries to me the cries
Of others indoors, midwifing each other,
Out Here in the twilight birdsongs
Something stirs in my ashes.
