your eye

I find I have picked up
A new habit :
Serenading my loves.
Today, how could I resist –
I didn’t.
I strummed a little gratitude into our lunch,
Mine de rien.

I land in an island,
meander my way to a hotel room
And here,
Our paths meet again.

This picture holds such beauty to me,
Because it shows me your eye
As it falls for the first time in months on
Your sleeping child.

Mother,
I remember that night you finally
Sunk into sleep,
When we all gathered under the same roof
To wait for death.

There’s a trickle of that in the air
Today,
The year has turned and
We join,
Snatched out of the sky
To watch torrents of rain.
